Why Responsive

The benefits of Responsive Webdesign

Functionality

In the past, it was common to provide the user with website access by mobile devices less content. Today, the world has changed and bandwidths are sufficiently available. Modern smartphones have full Internet browser today. The boundary between "mobile access" and "non-mobile access" is difficult to distinguish.
In front of this background, it is important to offer the user even with "mobile access" all the contents and make them available in their full operability. The challenge is thus obtained in the manner of presentation and preparation of the content on smaller screens. Responsive web design is here the best solution.

Central care

Another advantage is: no duplicate content, no duplication of effort. Sites require constant maintenance of content and features. If a content is separated to provide for mobile devices (so-called. Mobile websites) this is often combined with twice the maintenance of the content. In addition, new features have to be integrated frequently separately for both sides. If the content of a mobile web site is not properly named than it can be classified as a "duplicate content" and will be devalued by Google. The use of responsive web design allows providing a single version of the site that dynamically adapts to the resolution of the various devices.

Endless number of devices

The number of different smartphones, tablets and other Internet devices is growing. Many of the new devices bring new gadgets with them which should to be considered. The flexibility of a responsive web design ensures that the layout adapts to new devices without manually intervention.

Anyway, a clear separation of the devices in "mobile" and "stationary" is difficult. In particular, Tablets and Netbooks combine typical mobile properties with stationary characteristics. Therefore it's recommended, to be guided by the resolution and not only on the type of device. Exactly that allows responsive web design.

"You put water into a cup,
it becomes the cup.

You put water into a bottle,
it becomes the bottle.

You put water into a teapot,
it becomes the teapot."

Josh Clark

"Put your content into a responsive website, it becomes the device."

Recommended by Google

Google has a great reputation when it comes to internet technology. So, why not trust the recommendations of Google, if you talk about mobile-optimized website layouts? And Google's recommendation is very clear:

"Google recommends webmasters to apply best practices for responsive web design. In this case, the same HTML code is used for all devices and controlled the rendering on the relevant device exclusively by CSS media queries."

Ranking

Google wants to forward the user to websites that they want to see. When a user clicks on your page and immediately return to the search result, is this a signal for Google that the search results does not fit to the searched word. This ranking criterion is called "Bounce Rate". If you have a mobile site that has small content or structured significant differently than the desktop site, returning visitors will be frustrated when they can not find their usual content. If you have no mobile website, 61% of visitors return to Google back and search for another content that is easier to read.

Google has announced that mobile optimized web sites will get a better ranking in mobile searching. Google itself recommends responsive web design, which means that responsive web sites has the same good ranking like pure mobile sites.

The future is mobile

No matter which statistics you believe, the future is mobile! The sales of smartphones and tablets is growing rapidly. Thus, the number of mobile accesses to websites increases steadily and will continue to rise. According to a study by IDC, the number of smartphone sales will increase already in 2014 to more than one billion units. This will be about 1.5 billion in 2017.
